While I appreciate the hopeful words, I find myself coalescing with a growing group who wish to give the finger to the entire system and all those who would seek to wield the authority of the state for any purpose. “We’re not voting our way out of this” is a popular tagline, and one that is mistakenly thought to be a call to violence. “Exit and build” is the one I like personally as it merely requires others to do nothing. Non participation in a system that I wish to remove my consent from. I think we’ll figure out the roads easily enough.
Oh I get the appeal of your position. I'm just too chicken and dependent on the systems in place to do what you suggest. I also understand the palpable irony in what I just said with the entire premise of my article. On the subject of "the roads"... I'm pretty sure we can actually do better than the status quo on roads. The major thoroughfare to my neighborhood is a month late (so far) and substantially over budget. Probably just waiting on signatures at this point. Google maps has already started directing people to use it, resulting in some pretty unsafe "wrong side of the road" situations when people have to turn around and can't.
Well my friend, I am also a chicken and dependent on said system. But I’m prepared to face other options if anything just to see a different outcome. And I’ll all for paying for the roads I use, besides why should the 15 min city bros have to pay for the roads they don’t use?

or us for their roads, as I am not certain I will feel welcome in the one going in down the road from me.
